Lili Mikami is a Yugambeh (Gold Coast) and Meanjin-based (Brisbane) visual artist. Lili is passionate about her place in the contemporary arts as an early-career artist championing and exploring the biracial experience in Australia. She often delves explicitly into issues surrounding identity, and particularly her personal experience growing up as a person of Japanese and Australian descent in Australian society. To explore and dissect these ideas, Lili uses ceramic sculpture, mixed-media, textile, and text. The conceptual exploration of identity is a vital part of her practice, using cultural, sentimental, and traditional objects and materials as points of inspiration.
