Daozhen Yang’s practice examines animal protection through performative, photographic artworks. The aim of these works is to prompt people to reflect on their own behaviours. As human beings, we should protect the contemporary animal species instead of accelerating the rate of extinction of these creatures merely for our own desire. For example, Fashion is a work that aims to express the harm caused by the fashion industry to animals. The human body is chosen as the material in these artworks, to encourage people to put themselves in animals’ shoes as much as possible when considering animal protection issues.
