Bella Deary is a Meanjin (Brisbane) based visual artist whose practice gathers influence from environmental science and climate activism to promote the equality of all living forms. Bella uses latex sculptures and video projection to create installations, often with immersive and interactive qualities. Her practice engages with the concept of ecocentrism, the belief that all natural life should be valued equally. This belief is advocated in the work by emphasising the innate organic qualities of the human body. Bella’s practice fluidly facilitates a discourse between representations of the body, natural environments, and domestic spaces through processes of mediation, layering and iteration. Her work aims to simulate interactions between these subjects to dismantle the hierarchy between humans and other living forms.
