Amy-Jean Mitchell is an emerging Brisbane based artist working primarily with acrylic paint and digital media to explore the temporal, corporeal and conceptual aspects of contemporary painting. Her practice considers the visual poetry within a composition, the process of developing a painting and the historical frameworks of the medium. Through a playful yet critical engagement with analogue and digital methods she explores the limits and possibilities of abstract language. She is interested in the unique presence that paintings have in different contexts and is interested in how looking at and creating paintings has been affected by the overwhelming presence of technology and social media in our lives. Amy-Jean’s paintings develop slowly over time through a process of layering intuitive gestures alongside carefully considered shapes and colours in digital and physical realms.
